A focused check of known backup metadata

Mastermind Backup Verifier is an internal Windows application in development. Its purpose is to compare one approved Google Drive backup item’s metadata with an expected record and report a match, difference or incomplete check.

The approved Google account is verified first. The item metadata check covers parent and drive context, binary file type, trash status, size, version, modification time and an available SHA-256 checksum. Missing checksum means unavailable, never a successful match.

The application must not download contents, search or discover files, upload or edit items, or change sharing. A metadata match is not proof of complete backups, intact contents or successful restoration.

Read-only still needs protection

The Google permissions cover account identity, email and account-wide read-only Drive metadata. The account may see working project items as well as backups. Metadata can be confidential.

The application’s exact-item checks constrain its own behavior; Google does not turn them into a folder-only permission. A stolen usable access token could authorize other metadata requests within the account’s access.

Privacy and contact

The privacy policy sets the handling permitted when the application is enabled. It explains planned protected storage, owner-controlled retention, service providers and separate revocation and deletion steps. Security controls must be reviewed before live access.
